About the Business
Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. The first woman to graduate in medicine from the University of Rome, she began a study of the educational problems of special needs children, achieving startling results and gaining respect around the world for her method and techniques. Having been asked to solve the social problem in Rome of urchin children in the streets, she opened her first 'Casa Dei Bambini' - Children's House, and applied her methods and materials to younger children, replicating her initial success. From 1900 to 1907, Montessori lectured on pedagogical anthropology at the University of Rome and was appointed inspector of schools in Italy. Later she travelled the world supervising Montessori directresses at work and in training and always greeting presidents and peasants alike, with the same respect she advocated for children.
