About the Business
The project was set-up by local parents, the playgroup leader and staff who formed a committee to push the project forward. The idea was to build upon the long established local playgroup by adding an after school club, which would continue to look after the children when they went to school. Two volunteers, Lydia McAlees, who was the playgroup leader and Audrey Carrick, an experienced childcare worker, embarked on a pilot scheme in September 1998 collecting nine children from one local primary school and providing childcare from 2pm to 5.30pm. With the support of the parent committee, the pilot was a great success and by June 1999 the number of parents using the After School facilities had grow to twenty and the club had a full waiting list for September 1999.
